DPF Cleaning Systems Compared:
Diesel particulate filter (DPF) cleaning utilizes two primary methods: Thermal and Aqueous. Each offers distinct advantages and disadvantages, influencing the optimal choice based on filter type and condition.
Thermal DPF Cleaning employs high temperatures for filter regeneration. While basic thermal systems are essentially modified kilns, advanced systems like Filtertherm® Thermal System incorporate smart features to expedite the process. As well as having the space to clean multiple filters at a time, & even room for a full-size One-Box. However, thermal cleaning can be challenging for irregularly shaped DPFs, potentially necessitating cutting and re-welding for complete ash removal. Furthermore, the complete heating and cooling cycle for thermal cleaning often runs for 24 hours.
Aqueous DPF Cleaning, conversely, uses water and specialized surfactants, eliminating lengthy bake cycles. Filtertherm’s Aqueous DPF Cleaning Machine utilizes a low-pressure, high-volume water system, effectively removing soot and contaminants from diverse filter shapes and sizes. Notably, Aqueous Cleaning is ideal for odd-shaped DPFs, as the water flow navigates complex geometries without requiring physical alterations. Aqueous cleaning can be completed within 2 hours, including drying the clean filter.
In essence, the selection between Thermal and Aqueous DPF cleaning hinges on specific requirements, including filter type and condition. Heavy-duty trucking operations and fleets should consult with Filtertherm® specialists to determine the most appropriate cleaning methodology for them.
